How to link a Printer to your PC/Laptop

Before linking a printer to a computer, you should disable S mode, because this may have an impact on whether the computer can ‘see’ the printer or not.

To disable S mode:

1.      Open the Microsoft Store.

2.      In the top right, in the search bar, search for S mode.

3.      This should bring up the Switch out of S mode page.

4.      Click Get.

5.      Your system is now not in S mode. Or refer to the S mode guide…

Connect via USB

A lot of printers can be plugged directly into a computer using a USB, this should automatically link the printer to the computer straight away or may need a driver update/install. This is a preferred way that could reduce the need to install any printer software.

1.      Connect the Printer to the computer with a USB.

2.    Open Settings from the Start menu.

3.      Search for Printers & Scanners.

5.      If the printer isn’t already showing in the list, click Add a printer or scanner.

6.      Click the printer that shows up and select Add device.

7.      When the computer has recognised the printer, it may ask you to download an app.

8.      The printer should now be connected and able to print anything you need.

Connect via Wi-Fi Network

1.      When you first turn on a printer it should ask you for an internet connection if it is wireless, although wired may also offer the same Wi-Fi connection.

2.      Follow the printer screen prompts to navigate to the LAN internet settings.

3.      Locate the internet network you want to connect the printer to and enter the internet password.

4.      With the printer added to the local network it should be picked up by other devices much like a  wired device.

1.      Open Settings from the Start menu.

2.      Search for Printers & Scanners.

3.      If the printer isn’t already showing in the list, click Add a printer or scanner.

4.      Click the printer that shows up and select Add device.

5.      When the computer has recognised the printer, it may ask you to download an app (not always).

6.    The printer should now be connected and able to print anything you need.
